Why Does Religion Seem To Get The Center Of Attention So Often In Politics?

ABC repeatedly noted controversial comments by Obama’s “allies,” but has yet to report comments by McCain endorsers
Summary: During recent editions of Good Morning America and World News, ABC discussed and aired reports on the “explosive statements” of Sen. Barack Obama’s former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, but ABC has yet to report on controversial comments by two “allies” of Sen. John McCain.
For example, evangelist John Hagee has said that “Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans,” and pastor Rod Parsley reportedly wrote that “America was founded, in part, with the intention of seeing this false religion [of Islam] destroyed.”
I want to see religion out of our government.

politics, like religion, are often based on fear.

Because they scream louder than anyone else. And make a bigger stink about everything they don’t like than anyone else. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Spineless politicians then kiss their collective butt and cave in to their ridiculous demands.
I want to see religion out of government too. And if they don’t get out, we need to start taxing the living sh*t out of them. They can start paying for the privilege of influencing government policy just like every other for-profit organization has to.

You will never see religion out of politics as long as people keep pumping hundreds upon hundreds of millions of dollars into it, so religion and politics are like husband and wife never to part because it’s big big big money for them.

My guess is because people want to vote for someone they see as being “moral” and “righteous” and “good”. They equate religious belief with morality.
So someone like Bush whose administration has caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi and Afghani people, and who has lied blatantly to be able to commit these murders, is still called “a good Christian man.”
I can’t think of a better case showing that religion and morality are in no way correlated.
—John Hagee, the televangelist endorsing McCain, also calls Harry Potter “contemporary witchcraft”.
“With or without religion you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.” -Kenneth Humphreys

Religion has really messed up our laws. Our country is in chaos. Just like the divisions of all the churches. No more religion. It shouldn’t even be mentioned. People have always been curious about our presidents beliefs, but it wasn’t so much a factor when voting. Now it’s all people talk about. And, they want to know what’s wrong with our country>

Religion is fear-based. And there is no greater motivator than fear. Not love/sex, not money, and not even the promise of power.

    I don’t like it either.
