New Orleans City Guide

free electricity for life

Feeling hot under the collar? Glaciers and polar ice are softening, sea levels are rising, hot, dry weather, great forest fires, water limitations, crop failures.. You say it, if these don’t feature in your life yet, they immediately will. Global temperature rises and global warming are facts of life now, according to the Global Panel on global temperature rises, and many scientists. Massive issues beyond our control! But are you hot under the collar? If you are not, you possibly live in a city where 1/2 the Earth’s voters live now and take a lot for granted. Because in town living we are far removed from normal activities that deliver our food, clothing and energy. Does your kid even know that milk comes out of a cow – or a soya bean if you are that way inclined – and not from a milk carton? Even in the city you cannot stick your head in the sand ( or under the asphalt? ) and you aren’t impervious to global temperature rises. Witnesses are the 15 thousand often aged folk that died in Paris alone in the sizzling hot Western european summer of 2003. Or the many finished in New Orleans at the ‘hands’ of storm Katrina. All we’d like is to live a life where we may raise our kids to have a future.
A future of some predictability : of schooling, a job, a family, community, of achievements and a delightful life – on a healthy planet Earth. There are great challenges ahead and it is too late to stop global warming.

The Earth has modified and the systems it uses to regulate itself are adjusting themselves.

But you are not defenseless. May I explain. Do I say that these issues are under our control then? Well, maybe.

We are talking about a severely disabled world actually . And from the experience of incapacity we’re going to be ready to learn the way to survive and thrive! ‘Come on, get real’, you say? Do I hear [*CO]‘Just show me the right alternate power sources and we are going to get out of this mess.’ Yes, we hopelessly must switch to scrub energy sources that don’t make a greenhouse out of our home, the Earth. But all the technology in the world will never be sufficient to survive and flourish. Green power sources alone won’t teach us to accept boundaries, unpredictability and what it is to steer a satisfying life. How we have lived collectively, in our billions, for the last couple of hundred years, has got us to this point. And by changing what we do we will be in a position to live through global temperature rises as best as we would. Even now. It’s easy and it’s difficult work. No real way out of that.

Many of us with gloomy incapacities know this. So, we may be able to learn to live well in a disabled world. Regardless of what’s to come you and I’m going to be well served by the sentiments and techniques that people with incapacities use to – not only to survive – but to live well. Those that guide us the way to use what we have sustainably. These ‘disabled people’ believe this : * Accept that every one of us are frail and exposed * The world is brim-full of limits. We need a few of these to live well * Weakness and reliance are a unavoidable part of an entire life * no one is independent, but interdependent * Connection with others is our lifeline and our wellbeing And they do this : * Engage with others to build positive relationship, where you reside, work and play * concentrate on other’s wants and that of the environment * take accountability for the situation you’re in * Care for others and the environment competently * Be in your face and use your humour and creativeness Not all folk with incapacities act in this way naturally. And I’d be the last to portray folks with incapacities as heroes. You try that! Talk to that old woman in your street. Provide a hand when someone wishes it. Doing such tiny things will connect you with others and your environment. And if all fails – regardless? Well, it’s the only possible way to go! Maybe your world might be just as hot but it is going to be cooler under your collar! to generate electricity for freeDo you want how to produce electricity for free?
